Ability To Work:
1. Three years of experience that provided expertise in wide-area data networks and/or enterprise network security; or,
2. three years of experience performing duties equivalent to EDP Network Technician or EDP Office Automation Specialist, including participation in Network Infrastructure and Network Security strategic planning, with Santa Barbara County; or,
3. a combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to one of the employment standards listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
Additional Information: Employment in this class requires successful completion of a criminal background investigation.
Knowledge of: principles and practices of the operation of redundant/reliable voice/data networks including staffing, operating and preventive maintenance procedures, and problem determination and resolution; principles of voice, video, and data communications networks; voice/data/video convergence technologies; fiber optic technologies; reliable network design, implementation, installation, and configuration; communications connectivity and protocols; contingency planning and testing; project planning, management, and reporting.
Job Description: This single-position class is distinguished from the EDP Network Technician III and EDP Office Automation Specialist II by its responsibility for planning and directing activities of Network and Security staff, including the supervision of staff engaged in designing new network operations and network security systems and maintaining existing systems. The Network Technician III and Office Automation Specialist II are advanced journey-level technical classes that may serve as lead workers but are not assigned overall responsibility for network infrastructure or network security.

Definition: Under general direction, plans, organizes, and directs the activities and staff of the Network Infrastructure and Network Security group for the Information Technology Services Division of the General Services Department; assesses the needs and priorities for operations, maintenance, and enhancement of the network infrastructure and for network security systems; and performs related duties as required.
