1. Current certification as a registered nurse, physician assistant, or paramedic, and three years of academic or clinical experience in pre-hospital emergency medicine within the last five years; or,
2. a combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to the employment standard listed above, that provides the required knowledge and abilities and that meets the requirements of Title 22, Section 100070 of the California Code of Regulations.
Knowledge of: pre-hospital care system and emergency health practices and procedures; state and local laws and regulations governing emergency medical services and the safety of emergency medical providers; emergency medical services and pre-hospital care system principles, practices, and methods of delivery; basic and advanced life support (including advanced cardiac life support, pediatric life support, etc.), procedures equipment, and pharmaceutical supplies; certification and recertification requirements and processes for operational emergency medical services instructors and providers; principles and methods of adult education and training program development and administration; principles and practices of training needs and analysis; basic principles of budgeting; and records management.
Job Description: This is a single-position class with responsibility for coordinating technical and administrative aspects of Fire Department emergency medical services programs, including Advanced Life Support (ALS), Basic Life Support (BLS), continuous quality improvement, Exposure Control Plan, and departmental immunizations and skin testing. This civilian classification in the Fire Department has primary responsibility for EMS administrative matters, such as regulatory compliance.
About Salary: $34.22-$41.77 every hour / $5,951-$7,266 monthly / Range: 6416
Definition: Under general direction, plans, develops,
coordinates, monitors, and evaluates technical and administrative
aspects of emergency medical services activities; evaluates medical
training needs; prepares and conducts emergency medical services
training for Fire Department personnel; serves as a liaison with
other emergency medical service providers and with regulatory
agencies; and performs related duties as required.
