Employee Relations Manager Job Description

Ability To Work:

1. Four years of professional experience in human resources administration, including two years in employee relations in a union environment, in a public agency; or,
2. a combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to the employment standard listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities.

Additional Requirements: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License.

Knowledge of: Meyers-Milias-Brown Act and other state and federal laws and court decisions regarding labor relations in the public sector; negotiation techniques; principles, practices, and process of dispute resolution and compensation administration; principles and practices of California public sector collective bargaining and public human resources management; principles of organization and management.


Job Description: This is a single-position class, which works under the direction of the County's Employee Relations Officer, the Human Resources Director, who has ultimate responsibility for the labor relations activities of the County.

Definition: Under general direction, represents the County in negotiations, various resolution processes, and other relationships with employee organizations; provides technical advice to department managers and employees regarding the interpretation and implementation of various laws and agreements affecting terms and conditions of employment; trains and supervises the work of assigned staff; and performs other related duties as required.
