Legal Secretary Job Description

Ability To Work:

1. Two years of clerical experience in a legal setting; or,
2. one year of clerical experience in a legal setting performing the duties of Office Assistant II with Santa Barbara County; or,
3. a combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to one of the employment standards listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities.

Knowledge of: standard office methods and equipment such as personal computer, dictating/transcribing equipment, and fax; standard English usage and grammar for business and legal documents; legal terminology and legal document layout and format; word processing software.


Job Description: This is the entry level in the legal secretarial series. The duties require an understanding of legal procedures and formats but available supervision and standardized policies and precedents limit the extent of initiative and ultimate responsibility. Specialization in assignments also may limit complexity.

$16.77-$20.47 every hour / $2,917-$3,561 monthly / Range: 4986

Legal Secretary I (#4686)

$16.28-$19.87 every hour / $2,831-$3,456 monthly / Range: 4926

Definition: Under general supervision, provides clerical and secretarial support services for a wide variety of legal functions; and performs related duties as required.
