Patient Accounts Supervisor Job Description

Ability To Work:

1. Four years increasingly responsible clerical experience with some supervisory responsibility and public contact, including two years medical billing, insurance, or related duties, preferably in a health facility; or,
2. two years experience performing duties equivalent to Patient Accounts Clerk with Santa Barbara County, and some supervisory and public contact experience; or,
3. equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities.

Education which can be related directly to the requirements of this classification may be substituted for general clerical experience on a year-for-year basis, not to exceed three years.

Knowledge of: principles of supervision; various types of health insurance, such as MediCal, MediCare, and other third-party reimbursers; sources of information to verify insurance coverage, personal earnings and assets, and debtor's ability to meet obligation; health care billing practices; automated billing and accounting systems; collection laws, regulations, and techniques.


Job Description: Incumbent is a working supervisor in charge of a staff assigned to bill and to collect patient accounts. Incumbent participates in germane activities at the more complex level, or as workload or other circumstances may require. Incumbent reports to the Data Processing Coordinator, and in the Coordinator's absence assumes responsibility for the entire data processing and patient accounting operations.


About Salary: $20.47-$24.99 every hour / $3,561-$4,347 monthly / Range: 5386

Definition: Under direction, in the Health Care Services Department, supervises and participates in the activities of the Patient Accounting Division; and, performs related duties as required.
