Psychiatrist Job Description

Ability To Work:

PSYCHIATRIST I:

1. Completion of a residency training program in psychiatry.

PSYCHIATRIST II:

1. Completion of a residency training program in psychiatry and two years of post-residency experience as a psychiatrist in a psychiatric facility; or,
2. two years of experience performing duties equivalent to the class of Psychiatrist I with Santa Barbara County.

Additional qualifications for both levels: Possession of a valid license as a physician and surgeon is required. Initial acceptance may be based on licensure as a physician and surgeon in another state; licensure as a physician and surgeon in California is required prior to appointment. Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License may be required.

Knowledge of: general medicine and psychiatry; current developments in the field of psychiatry; hospital and clinic organization, management, and procedures.


Job Description: The duties of the Psychiatrist I and II are essentially the same. The I is distinguished from the II by the latter's possessing more fully developed skills, and by being required to act with more independence in the promotion and utilization of effective psychiatric techniques.

$88.00-$100.98 every hour / $15,306-$17,563 monthly / Range: 1

Definition: Under direction, but with independent responsibility for professional results, to provide psychiatric diagnostic and therapeutic service in a mental health clinic and/or inpatient psychiatric facility; and to perform related duties as required.
