1. Four years of experience in network or communications support of data networks, including design and operation of a network with routers, high speed WAN connectivity, hubs, and SNMP-based management systems, that also included experience as a leadworker or project leader; or,
2. two years of experience performing duties equivalent to the class of EDP Network Technician III with Santa Barbara County; or,
3. a combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to one of the employment standards listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
Additional Qualifications: Employment in this class requires successful completion of a criminal background investigation, possession of a valid California Class C driver's license, availability to work weekends and be on-call on a rotation basis 24 hours per day, and the ability to see color.
Knowledge of: network planning and capacity management; digital and analog data communications hardware and software products; VTAM and NCP functions; twisted-pair data cabling techniques; Token Ring and Ethernet architecture; WAN protocols such as IP, IPX, ISNA, and NETBEUI; routing and bridging methodologies; SNMP-based network management systems; intelligent hubs and switches; fiber design; and troubleshooting/problem determination procedures.
Job Description: The Network Supervisor is distinguished from Network Technician III in that this single-position classification is responsible for the supervision, direction, and assignment of the Network section. This position defines all network tasks and priorities; provides design, scheduling, and status reporting of all network activities; and supervises the network staff.
