Job Description: The EDP Office Automation Specialist I/II is the flexibly-staffed specialist series within the Office Automation career series. Incumbents, depending on assignment, provide technical support and expertise in Local/Wide Area Networks (LAN/WAN) operating systems and related software, administration, development, application support, and data base management of n-tier and client/server systems. The emphasis of the I, or entry, level is the testing and implementation of large-scale, complex systems; incumbents may perform the full range of duties, including research and product design, on smaller, less complex projects. The II, or journey, level handles a broader range of more complex, large-scale assignments. This series is distinguished from the EDP Office Automation Coordinator series by its behind-the-scenes activity and the latter's emphasis on front-line customer support. This series is distinguished from the EDP Network Technician series by the latter's responsibilities for physical connections and communications technology. This series is distinguished from the Computer Systems Specialist series by the former's sole or primary responsibility for the County network or a county-wide network that is independent from the central County network, supporting applications that are utilized by multiple agencies, and supporting a large number of users, devices and servers over a wide area network (WAN).
