1. Four years of responsible experience in the operation of a medium to large scale computer system that includes a minimum of two years lead operator responsibilities (preferably in a multiple shift environment); or,
2. three years experience performing the duties equivalent to the class of EDP Computer Operator III with Santa Barbara County; or,
3. a combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to one of the employment standards listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
Knowledge of: complex multi-task operating systems such as MVS and JES and on-line systems such as TSO and CICS; principles and methods of supervision; procedures for problem analysis and resolution including abend analysis and recovery; development and maintenance of inventories and controls; job control language; Personal computer usage including word processing and customized database packages; monitoring environmental control levels; forms and expendable supplies used within operations; data backup, tape library management systems and reports; quality and production control development and procedures; characteristics of teleprocessing equipment and systems; current trends in computer operations training and automated operations activities; contingency and disaster planning requirements and test procedures.
Job Description: This position class reports to the EDP Operations Manager and is responsible for the supervision of the activities of a multi-shift operations section and all classes of Computer Operators. It is distinguished from the EDP Network Supervisor in that the latter is responsible for the supervision of the daily activities of network and data communications support.
