Engineering Technician Supervising Job Description

Ability To Work:

1. Five years of paraprofessional civil engineering experience, including at least two years of journey-level experience in the required specialty. Completion of 24 semester units or 36 quarter units of college-level courses in civil engineering or closely related subjects, such as land surveying, soils erosion, soils testing, blueprint reading, mathematics, computer graphics, or hydrology, may be substituted for one year of the required general experience; or,
2. one year of experience in the required specialty performing duties equivalent to an Engineering Technician, Specialist with Santa Barbara County; or,
3. combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to one of the employment standards listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities.

Knowledge of: algebra, geometry, trigonometry, drafting, and surveying; principles and practices of civil engineering; methods and materials used in public works construction; and basic supervisory practices.


Job Description: Positions in this class have technical supervisory responsibility for public works staff. Work in this class requires knowledge of the specific field and technical administrative and supervisory skills. This class is distinguished from Engineering Technician, Specialist in that responsibilities are of a broader scope and stress technical program administration.


About Salary: $30.09-$36.73 every hour / $5,233-$6,388 monthly / Range: 6158

Definition: Under direction, plans, coordinates, and supervises the work of paraprofessional and professional engineering staff engaged in construction administration, traffic engineering studies, surveying, roadway or flood control design, or similar engineering projects; and performs related duties as required.
