1. Registration as an Environmental Health Specialist in the State of California and one year of experience as a registered Environmental Health Specialist or its equivalent in a public health agency; or,
2. a combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to the employment standard listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License at the time of appointment.
Knowledge of: principles of general chemistry, organic chemistry, epidemiology, physics, microbiology, biology, calculus and statistics; principles and practices of environmental health, public administration; State and Federal laws and regulations governing Environmental Health and Safety; water treatment processes and remediation techniques, land development processes and policies, sewage treatment processes and alternatives; engineering and technical code requirements for plans and specifications; evidence gathering and prosecutorial practices, legal and technical aspects of various specialty fields in Environmental Health.
Job Description: Incumbents in this class serve as recognized specialists and/or lead workers in such areas as: land use and development, liquid waste, water systems, solid waste and food sanitation. Incumbents are expected to perform in all program areas as assigned. This class is distinguished from the Environmental Health Specialist, Supervising by the latter's supervisory responsibilities for an assigned work unit.
About Salary: $28.06-$34.25 every hour / $4,880-$5,957 monthly / Range: 6018
Definition: Under general direction, performs the more complex
and specialized work in the regulation and enforcement of
Environmental Health and Safety laws, rules and regulations; plans
and implements a specialized program within the Environmental Health
Division or leads others in the conduct of field inspections; and
performs related duties as required.
