1. Possession of a Ph.D. in Epidemiology or Public Health with a specialization in Epidemiology; or,
2. possession of a master's degree in Epidemiology or Public Health with a specialization in Epidemiology and two years of epidemiologic research experience; or,
3. a combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to one of the employment standards listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
Knowledge of: detailed analytic and descriptive epidemiology; various approaches to epidemiological research; current methods and techniques of diseases control and prevention; theory, practice, and application of epidemiologic methodologies, including design and evaluation of epidemiologic research; scientific and technical report writing techniques and methods; etiology and natural history of infectious and chronic diseases, including vector control, host defenses, and resistance; disease patterns and stages of health and prevention; computer applications used to generate, organize, and display statistical charts, graphs, geographical, and other research data; current developments in epidemiology and general medicine.
Job Description: This classification is distinguished by its responsibility for administrative and supervisory tasks associated with the Epidemiology unit in the Public Health Department. It is further distinguished from the Epidemiologist/Biostatistician by its role in planning more complex and sophisticated surveillance and interventions to control and monitor communicable, chronic, and environmental disease hazards.
About Salary: $33.21-$40.54 every hour / $5,776-$7,051 monthly / Range: 6356
Definition: Under general direction, supervises the Epidemiology
unit in the Public Health Department; plans, initiates, and conducts
epidemiological investigations, field studies, and disease
surveillance; serves as a technical expert to Public Health
management and the community; makes recommendations regarding
allocation of resources and program design based upon
epidemiological evidence; and performs other related duties as
required.
