Equipment Mechanic Job Description

Ability To Work: Equipment Mechanic I:

1. One year of experience performing preventive maintenance and routine repairs on motor vehicles or heavy equipment; or,
2. one year of experience performing duties equivalent to the class of Equipment Service Worker with Santa Barbara County; or,
3. a combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to one of the employment standards listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities.

Additional Requirements: Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License upon appointment. Possession of a valid California Class A Driver's License within one year of appointment.

Knowledge of: principles and practices of repair and preventive maintenance of motor vehicles; tools and equipment used in making mechanical repairs.


Job Description: Equipment Mechanic I is the entry level class in which incumbents perform the less complex repair work and assist an Equipment Mechanic II in performing the more complex repairs. The Equipment Mechanic II is characterized by responsibility for independently performing more complex repairs and for acting in a lead capacity over an Equipment Mechanic I. This series is distinguished from the Automotive Mechanic class series by responsibility for maintaining and repairing heavy equipment. Heavy equipment is defined as vehicles larger than one ton, including: fire engines, buses, and construction equipment.

$17.70-$21.61 every hour / $3,078-$3,758 monthly / Range: 5094

Equipment Mechanic II (#3351)

$21.52-$26.27 every hour / $3,743-$4,569 monthly / Range: 5486

Definition: Under general supervision, maintains and repairs a variety of gasoline and diesel-powered equipment; and performs related duties as required.
