Human Resources Technician Job Description

Ability To Work:

1. Four years of progressively responsible clerical duties, preferably in a personnel or payroll capacity; or,
2. one year of experience equivalent to an Office Assistant, Senior with Santa Barbara County; or,
3. a combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to one of the employment standards listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities.

Knowledge of: English grammar and usage; basic arithmetic; office procedures and practices; alphanumeric filing; standard office computer software; standard office equipment.


Job Description: This is an advanced journey-level clerical class. It is distinguished from more general clerical classifications by its primary responsibility for complex personnel functions and by its use of Civil Service and other rules to help managers and supervisors effectively resolve issues and meet departmental goals. Typically, incumbents in this class will be found only in the central Personnel Department or in large departments with extensive and complex personnel transactions and needs.

$16.69-$20.37 every hour / $2,902-$3,543 monthly / Range: 4976

Human Resources Technician-Restricted (#5699)

$17.45-$21.31 every hour / $3,035-$3,706 monthly / Range: 5066

Definition: Under general supervision, implements Countywide and departmental personnel/payroll procedures; ensures that personnel transactions are conducted in accordance with Civil Service rules and appropriate policies and procedures; serves as point of contact for employees, supervisors, managers, and applicants with questions regarding personnel/payroll procedures and rules; processes personnel-related documents, and performs related duties as required.
