Medical Records Technician Job Description

Ability To Work:

1. Three years of increasingly responsible experience in medical records work or closely related field; or,
2. two years of increasingly responsible experience performing duties equivalent to the class of Clerk II with Santa Barbara County in medical records work; or,
3. possession of an associate in science degree in medical records and one year of experience in medical records work; or,
4. equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities.

Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License is required.

Knowledge of: medical terminology; principles and practices of health information record systems; uses and limitations of medical records, indexes, and classification systems; office procedures; basic math including addition and subtraction.


Job Description: This class is distinguished from Medical Records Technician II in that the latter is responsible for the overall administration and supervision of the medical records unit of Health Care Services.


About Salary: $15.33-$18.71 every hour / $2,666-$3,255 monthly / Range: 4806

Definition: Under direction, maintains medical records by checking and verifying that information is complete; codes and indexes diagnoses, operations, and special therapies recorded in clinical histories; and to do related work as required.
