Nutritionist Job Description

Ability To Work:

Possession of a bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in nutrition and dietetics, and one year of training in a dietetic internship approved by the American Dietetic Association.

Must be R.D. eligible upon appointment, and must obtain a dietitian registration from the American Dietetic Association within one year of appointment, as a condition of continued employment.

Additional Qualifications: Incumbents may be required to travel independently to clinic sites; may be required to work evenings and weekends; ability to speak/read/write Spanish fluently may be required for some positions.

Knowledge of: nutrition principles and practices; current trends and issues in nutrition; methods of nutrition and dietary assessments; comparative costs of foods in relation to their nutritional value; counseling techniques; community resources and services; and standard office software.


Job Description: Public Health Nutritionist is the entry-journey level classification. Incumbents learn the WIC rules and regulations in order to perform the full range of nutritionist duties. It is distinguished from the WIC Site Supervisor by the latter's responsibility for supervising and directing the work of WIC clinic staff.


 

About Salary: $22.58-$27.56 every hour / $3,926-$4,793 monthly / Range: 5582

Definition: Under direction, provides professional nutrition services to participants of the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Nutrition Program and clients of other nutrition components within the Public Health Department; and performs related duties as required.
