PLANNING TECHNICIAN I:
1. Completion of two years of college coursework in a technical, liberal arts, or science program that included 15 semester or 22 quarter units in urban and regional planning, environmental studies, or life, physical, or social sciences, or,
2. two years of administrative or technical experience which included six months of experience providing technical or administrative support in an environmental, planning, mapping, architectural, civil engineering, or related agency or organization; or,
3. equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities.
PLANNING TECHNICIAN II:
1. Three years of administrative or technical experience including one year of experience related to planning, research, or development of land use/environmental projects that included public contact; or,
2. one year of experience performing duties equivalent to the class of Planning Technician I with Santa Barbara County; or,
3. equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities.
Up to 60 semester or 90 quarter units of college coursework in a technical, liberal arts, or science program may be substituted for the general experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 semester or 45 quarter units equivalent to one year of full-time experience.
Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License may be required.
PLANNING TECHNICIAN I:
Knowledge of: office procedures and record keeping operations; general planning, mapping, or construction terminology; English grammar and usage.
Job Description: This class series provides support to professional planning staff by applying basic procedures of County Land Use Ordinances, Comprehensive Plan, and other regulatory guidelines to receive and review various land use proposals and in response to public inquiries. Positions in this series usually assist in the most routine applications and planning studies regarding land use interpretation; complex problems are referred to higher level classifications.
