1. One year of experience supervising peace officers in either community corrections, probation, or parole that included some project/program development and budget preparation; or,
2. one year of experience performing duties equivalent to the class of Deputy Probation Officer, Supervising or Probation Institutions Supervisor with Santa Barbara County; or,
3. a combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to one of the employment standards listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
Completion of Probation CORE training and PC 832 or equivalent are required within 1 year of employment.
Additional Qualifications: Must meet minimum peace officer standards as specified in California Government Code Sections 1029 and 1031, including but not limited to: no prior felony convictions (unless fully pardoned), good moral character as determined by thorough background check, submission of fingerprints for purpose of a criminal record check, and be found to be free from any physical, emotional, or mental condition which might adversely affect the powers of a peace officer. Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship.
Knowledge of: laws related to provision of adult and juvenile probation services; current practices of adult and juvenile probation; alternate programming for adult and juvenile probationers; psychological principles and practices related to the care and rehabilitation of clients; principles and practices of supervision and performance management; principles of budget preparation and administration; principles of project management; negotiating techniques; standard English usage and grammar.
Job Description: This is a management classification, distinguished from the Supervising Deputy Probation Officer and Probation Institutions Supervisor by its overall administrative and program responsibility for multiple facilities or programs.
