Social Services Special Projects Job Descriptions

Ability To Work:

1. Possession of a Bachelor's degree and significant professional experience in project management of multi-disciplinary team(s), preferably in the public sector in human services or a service-oriented agency in the private sector; or;
2. equivalent combination of training, education, and experience which would demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Knowledge of: principles and practices of project management; and process engineering and re-engineering techniques and practices; principles and practices of specific technical field associated with project; principles and practices of business and public administration; research, analytical, and data collection techniques; principles and practices of management, supervision, and training; federal and state regulations related to the project; and budget administration.


Job Description: Project Managers are distinguished from departmental managers by primary assignment of highly skilled and specialized project management of time-limited highly technical projects. Project Managers are also distinguished from departmental managers by management of multi-disciplinary teams made up of professionals from all sectors of the County, external consultants, citizen participation advisors, members assigned from other governmental agencies, non profit organizations, and the private sector.

Incumbents in this class will be responsible for projects related to Welfare Reform such as development of Work Experience and Community Service components for our clients; new mandates in the Adult Protective Services Program; Y2K planning; coordination of environmental scan presentation; development of a plan for Emergency Shelter Care for abused and neglected children.

Definition: Under administrative direction, leads and directs a multi-disciplinary team completing a specialized and highly technical project in any area of County policy and operations; teaches project management techniques and practices; and performs related duties as required.
