Transportation Planner Supervising Job Description

Ability To Work

1. Three years of increasingly responsible professional experience in transportation engineering or planning; or,
2. one year of experience performing duties equivalent to the class of Transportation Planner II with the County of Santa Barbara; or,
3. a combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to one of the employment standards listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities.

Additional Qualifications: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License may be required.

Knowledge of: principles of transportation planning and traffic engineering; research methods and techniques essential to transportation planning; computer applications in transportation planning; administrative procedures related to transportation funding programs; current trends in federal, state, and regional transportation planning; state and federal transportation funding programs; environmental and land use analysis; and computer modeling.


Job Description: This is a single-position, supervisory level class in the Transportation Planner series. It is distinguished from the Transportation Planner II by its supervisory responsibilities. The Transportation Planner series is distinguished from other planning and engineering classes by its emphasis on transportation planning activities. Transportation Planner, Supervising is further distinguished from the Project Manager, Traffic Management by the latter's responsibility for operations of the County's Traffic Management Center and for managing multi-disciplinary teams.


 

Salary: $36.08-$44.04 every hour / $6,275-$7,660 monthly / Range: 6522

Definition: Under general direction, conducts complex transportation planning studies, supervises and trains professional staff, and performs related duties as required.
