Truancy Program Social Worker Senior

Ability To Work:

1. Two years of professional social work experience; or,
2. two years of experience performing duties equivalent to Social Services Worker with Santa Barbara County; or,
3. possession of a bachelor's degree in sociology, psychology, or related field and one year of experience equivalent to Victim Witness Program Assistant II with Santa Barbara County; or,
4. a combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to one of the employment standards listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities.

Additional Requirements:

1. Possession of a valid California class C driver's license is required upon employment.
2. Selectees for employment in this class must, as a condition of employment, sign a statement agreeing to comply with Section 11166 of the California Penal Code relating to child abuse reporting.
3. Selectees for positions in this class are subject to fingerprinting for the purpose of a criminal record check as authorized by Section 16501 of the California Welfare and Institutions Code and Section 11105.3 of the Penal Code.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION: Professional social work experience working with adolescents.

Knowledge of: principles and practices of social work as applicable to truant minors, high-risk adolescents, and their families; principles and techniques of interviewing, diagnostic assessment, and various counseling modalities; principles of human development, child development, parenting, and family dynamics; public assistance and social services systems; medical, psychological, social, and educational resources, needs, problems, attitudes, and behavior of assigned client population; report writing practices; and standard computer applications used in business and government.


Job Description: This class is characterized by the responsibility for performing social work typically associated with programs designed to reduce truancy and chemical dependency in junior high and high school students; however, assignments may vary based upon program needs. Incumbents report to a program supervisor but receive professional and technical guidance from a Truancy Program Social Work Practitioner.


Salary: $21.82-$26.64 every hour / $3,795-$4,633 monthly / Range: 5514

Definition: Under general direction, performs professional-level social work in truancy intervention programs; and performs related duties as required.
